siena's duomo, or cathedral, is both romanesque and gothic. it was built around the 1300's, and it was originally intended to be the biggest cathedral in the world, but they had run out of money so there are some walls that were built, but now just stand next to the cathedral. these buildings are huge.hard to describe the scale, but because siens is so hilly, when we walked behindit,werealized they had built the church on top of the baptistry. it had to be about 100 feet high....
