the rock of gibraltar

hello all from the little english town/port/area of gibraltar. try as we might, we couldn't find 'the rock' dwyane johnson. sorry darren.
its down at the southern tip of spain, and from here, we can see Spain as well as the African continent. The Gibraltar straights are quite calm, and its about 14 miles from Spain to Africa. Quite cool. Finally the seas are calm, we spotted some dolphins today, (we told them we had cookies!!) the sun is out and its warm. (OK- maybe a bit too warm) We started playing shuffleboard like all old people do and its quite fun. Although we did try playing as the ship was moving and Noah and I did almost get blown off the boat.
We were in port at Lisboa yesterday (Lisbon, Portugal) and we toured a mountain town of Sintra, Lisbon, and went to the seaside at Cashiao. (Sorry, spelling is off - as the pronunciation isn't quite like the spelling) Palaces, palaces and monuments. Not the tours of a 5 year old boy. So we had a few tantrums. Today, under threat of losing nightnight overboard, Noah was much better- as did the subject of the Gibraltar history- as it has been fought over numerous times, from the Moors claiming it in 711, to the Spanish, and then the British. Lots of guns and canons and tunnel tours! Never has Noah been so quite. On top of that, there are monkeys up at the top of Gibraltar and they sit there taking food from unsuspecting tourists. Noah thought it was hilarious. We even visited a cave full of stalagtites and stalagmites (mites are the ones on the bottom- for all you out there who want to know) and of course there is a skull hidden in the depths to keep little 5 year olds interested. Some new theme parks ideas here... Disney- you paying attention???
Sammi has been quite great throughout the trip, although every so often she'll start picking on Noah- and the cabin crew have all endeared themselves to them- and regular bowls of strawberries, chocolate (although sammi says 'i'm not supposed to eat chocolate') and kiwis keep appearing on our doorway.
we are off to cartagena tomorrow... bon journee

Wait a minute... Sammi's not supposed to eat chocolate, or YOU're not supposed to eat chocolate? Sounds like the cave tours really grabbed Noah. Sammi should be able to buy whatever she wants at "the gift shop" since she sounds like she's being a very good little traveler despite the more grown-up nature of some of your sight-seeing. (If not something from the gift shop, then definitely a few visits to YOGURTLAND are in order???)
