south of spain and france

hola!
hope you are well. its been a crazy last couple of days. after we left gibraltar, we headed to cartagena- where sammi, noah and i had a rest while the rest of the troops went off for yet another city tour and walk. it seems like we did the right thing, sleeping in, playing shuffleboard, swimming (in a pool they fill up with ocean water- so it was super salty cause of the mediterrainean) taking a nap-
the town was quite small and quiet. also, they take siesta time seriously, and when they wanted to go shopping - everything was closed.

the next day was valencia, spain- great city- our guide rosa (after daisy in gibraltar- this was quite funny) was great, she showed us the old parts of the roman town that valencia was founded on, the town is famous for a huge festival in march- the fettes festival- where it is much like the rose parade- and they build these floats out of paper mache all year long- for the 19th of march when they assemble them in the town squares and torch them. yep- fettes (or some reasonable closeness in spelling- sorry) means flames. it sounds pretty cool and we have to come back.... we visited the market- more octopus and wriggling shrimp- then to the l'oceanagraphic- the aquarium. super cool- shrimp still were swimming around with their heads on! they have a belugia whale (actually a dolphin) some walruses about 20 ft long- big shark tank with walk thru tube and a cool dolphin show- where the dolphins launch the trainers up into the sky off of their noses. one dolphin per foot... something you don't see at sea life park!  a quick dinner, to bed, and up the next morning for a tour of barcelona.

i think i like barcelona the best. it is a huge city- people zoom around on their mopeds in their 3 piece suits and at least wear helmets-
joanna, our guide, took us to the miro foundation (where everyone was quite bored except for me and aunty betsy) walked a couple of streets where there are street performers, fruit stands, flowers, tourist souviners, think waikiki....
and to gaudi's la sagrada familia. its this crazy church that artist antonio gaudi started building back in the 1880's or so- and they are still not done- maybe in about another 60 years... his idea was to represent the entire bible stories on the outside- as well as making it a monument to nature- so inside, the columns that support the ceiling (which have to be about 5 stories tall) are in the shape of palm trees. its quite beautiful now- when everyone back then said it was a giant mess and piece of junk.
we ended the tour a bit early and headed back for another swim - dinner's main event was vanilla souffles- but daddys (joe's) are WAY better. (of course)
today is st. tropez, tomorrow we leave the ship! its been quite fun to eat raisin dainishes everymorning with eggs and bacon... we look forward to coming home, although, noah is now in a much better place, i think he finally figured out the schedule of things- so look out people... the first week or so won't be too good... although i am crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.
wish you all well.
see you soon.
