hello all- we spent the day in bilbao walking around a spanish market with our chef from le cordon bleu. aunty erin and i are taking classes- and the market is pretty much like chinatowns' markets, but with lots more heads, hoofs and inners. (sammi and noah went on a tour with nonni and everyone else)
it was cool, he told us all about how to cook certain things- i don't think i'll ever quite put it into use- but you never know. be forwarned before coming over for our next dinner party!
we can make a good tomato tian and a ok lamb chunk of meat though.
we headed back off out of old town to the guggenheim bilbao museum- wonderful work of artwork and architecture mixed together with some great contemporary art inside. noah had toured it earlier, and we found them heading off to lunch- so he offered to take us through. he was a great tour guide, showing us these wonderful 20 ft high metal plates, curved like 'giant cinnamon rolls' which you could walk around and in. (done by richard serra) he also showed us a couple other things- and loved the giant green & floral 'puppy' (also about 20 ft high) outside done by jeff koons.
bilbao is surrounded by hills- and our time here was spent in partial sunshine and intermittent parts of rain. quite cold, as it was raining in bordeaux as well- and you can tell we are the hawaiians in the group cause of the jackets, beanies and scarves.
full day at sea tomorrow- then we hit lisbon. they say its warm and sunny there.... lets hope we beat the rainstorms!
aloha
